Vizag steel 'supports' Nagpur Freedom Park Zero Mile metro station

Visakhapatnam: RASHTRIYA Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant has a significant contribution in the construction of Freedom Park Zero Mile metro station of Nagpur, which was inaugurated recently.

The multi-storied commercial building with multi-level underground parking with a concourse level below the platform level is considered an engineering marvel. Under the project, hotels and luxury guest rooms will be built on several floors above the platform.

Vizag Steel-the product brand name of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant is proud to be associated with the Nagpur Maha Metro Project. In a tweet, RINL said "More than 30,000 tonnes of Vizag Steel TMT bars have been used for construction of Freedom Park Zero Mile Metro Station, part of Metro Project."

Responding to the tweet, former Director (Commercial) of RINL P Raychaudhury, who officiated as CMD for sometime, commented on the micro-blogging site "RINL, always in the forefront of nation-building efforts. Keep it up team RINL. Many more to come."

The Zero Mile Freedom Park Metro Station is considered a masterpiece of architecture in Nagpur. It is the first of its kind in India to be part of a majestic 20-storey building with a metro train occupying the fourth floor. The building has unique concepts with rich architecture, amphitheater, T-55 tank and a Martyrs' Memorial. The inauguration of the building marked the celebration of the 75th anniversary of Independence.

The highlight of the metro station is the track structure along with building structure wherein the vibrations generated by the train wheels moving on the tracks will be transmitted directly to the building structure. Rs 8,260 crore is being spent on the Metro Project, the 13th in the country. The project is being executed in phases.
